The famous Azienda Gulfi produces this superb wine from grapes grown for hundreds of years on the island, on a clay-limestone soil rich in fossils. It has an almost Chablisian nose of pomelo, oyster shell and praline nuances, and a full-bodied texture with incredible length and salinity. A very fine white wine from the terroir!

Technique

Viticulture

The terroir is called Vigna Campo and is located in Val Canzeria at an altitude of 400 metres, in the municipality of Chiaramonte Gulfi (Ragusa), in the south of Sicily. Canzeria is the name of Arabic origin which means 'place of the boars'. The climate is Mediterranean-temperate, and is characterised by strong thermal variations. The soil is limestone and slightly clayey. The vineyard was planted in 1999 at a density of 9000 vines/ha.

Oenology

The grapes are harvested in mid-September and vinified in steel vats and barrels of 225 to 500 litres. The wine is aged for one year in the same containers. Light sulphiting.
