The 2021 Primeurs campaign - Classic & Contemporary

2021 is an extreme vintage. In the memory of most winegrowers, rarely has a vintage been so harsh, so demanding and so hard on the winegrowers, between frost and enormous pressure from mildew, and this in most European vineyards. In the end, we could also speak of 2021 in terms of a miracle. Except that it is not of supernatural origin. It is the result of a constant struggle to save a difficult vintage.

After two years of interruption due to the pandemic, we went to Bordeaux to discover the 2021. And there, surprise! Without going overboard, there are successes to be found, but in an unusual style. Slender wines, with a savoury tone, which could remind us of the classics of yesteryear, but without the vegetal character that was most often associated with them. Basically, wines with a contemporary aesthetic, one that called for freshness, immediacy and a certain lightness without ever really finding them.
