This is one of the archetypes of the vintage, a wine of breathtaking grace, depth and breed. The nose has depth and precision of anthology. The body is sculptural, dense, elegant in its articulation, with a very pure grain of tannin, without an ounce of rigidity. As in many properties, we have favoured very gentle extractions here. Magnificent! J. Robinson: 18/20; Decanter: 19/20; JM Quarin: 17/20; N. Martin: 95/100

Viticulture

Château Calon-Ségur, located at the time in the commune of Saint-Estèphe de Calon, was owned by the d'Albret family, Jean de Lur, Pierre de Marsan and finally Monsieur de Gasq. The property was named Calon after a small boat used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Gironde to the other. The soil is hilly and gravelly. The average age of the vineyard is 40 years.

Oenology

The wine is aged in oak barrels, some of which are new (30 to 50% depending on the vintage) and lasts an average of 24 months.
