Don PX Convento Seleccion, Toro Albala (magnum) - 1946

Comment by Luis Gutierrez for The Wine Advocate: "Vinified with grapes dried under the sun at the time of the Second World War and bottled in September 2011. This is an extraordinary wine. First of all, it is extremely concentrated. It has great power and a rich aromatic palette of umami, cinnamon, yule log, camphor, lemongrass, chocolate and buttery touches. Exceptional complexity and richness. The palette is balanced and soft, in a way sweet but also salty; it develops notes of black olives. A mixture of the texture of the 1962 vintage and the elegance of the 1949. This wine will outlive us all. Drink 2013-2060. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate: 100/100
The grapes are harvested at the end of August. The best bunches are selected and transported in crates to a sandy area where they are laid out in the sun to dry for 10 days (45-50°C during the day and 25-35°C at night). The bunches are then crushed with very powerful presses, and the must is put into vats. The alcoholic fermentation takes place until about 9° of alcohol. The wine is then matured to about 17° and then aged for a long time in large American oak barrels.
