Definition: Pycnide

A bottle-shaped stromatic cavity that contains spermatia. An organ of asexual reproduction in fungi, spherical and hollow in shape, with an opening (ostiole) and producing conidia or pycniospores, characteristic of the imperfect stages of certain fungi, and of a large number of imperfect fungi.
