Definition: Nostrano

The expression tessinoise means "ours". It originally referred to a rustic, artisan wine. Formerly a red table wine from Ticino, generally produced from Bondola and Freisa grape varieties, its original meaning is no longer entirely respected. The term Nostrano is now used for many red wines from Ticino, except for Merlot, meaning that it is a rustic, homemade wine.
