Definition: Cornalin

A native red grape variety grown in Valais, also known as Rouge du Pays or Landroter and Neyrum (from nigrum = black) in 14th-century manuscripts. It should be reserved for the best slopes. Its name comes from a semi-precious stone well known to jewellers. A fine, tannic wine with aromas of cherry and overripe morello cherry; reminiscent of dried fruit and wallflower. Good ageing potential.
