Definition: buntsansstein

Geological series of the Triassic period (beginning of the Mesozoic era), comprising, in addition to the Vosges sandstone itself (Middle Buntsandstein), which is absent here, variegated sandstones, including Volzia sandstone, which is often micaceous (Upper Buntsandstein).
