Terra Alta

Altavins Viticultors was founded in 2001 by Joan Arrufí and Jordi Casado, two friends with a passion for wine, in the heart of the DO Terra Alta, a region located in southwestern Catalonia, 200 kilometres from Barcelona. The soil is rich in silt and poor in organic matter. The vineyard is located between 350 and 550 m. It has a Mediterranean climate with little rainfall (between 350 and 450 millimetres per year), high levels of light and is influenced by two dominant winds, the Cierzo (from the Ebro valley) and the Garbi (from the sea). Thanks to these climatic effects, there are very few diseases, which makes it possible to practice environmentally friendly viticulture. In addition, the nature of the soil provides the grapes with an exceptionally high concentration of minerals, which is felt in the wines with an effect of salinity and freshness that is rare in Catalonia.
